Evaluation Including Audience Feedback

Pictures

these are the photos i have taken for my project. although i havn't decided which i am going to use these are a few i have taken. i dressed my model in a leopard print style dress with a large belt to go with it. this is a clubbing like outfit so fits well with the dance genre. i didn't use any props i decided to just do it all natural and outside instead of in a studio. they are all in colour but if i wanted to using photoshop i could edit them to be different such as black or white.

these are some ideas i sketched out for my front cover, contents page and double page spread. by this point i hadn't taken my pictures so didn't have a clue what my artist would look like but i did take some off the ideas from these to my final version

Final Double Page Spread

this is my final double page spread. i am very pleased with how this turned out compared to my other pages. again the white and pink is used again but the font of the title is different to give it a change. the pictures at the bottom are good because they all show different poses and different sides to the artist. the quote at the top draws attention as people would want to carry on reading.

Final Contents Page

this is my final contents page and i am happy with how this turned out. i kept the same fonts in this page to make it continuous and also kept the colours pink and white continuous. the black background is used on all three pages to keep it the same. i like the big picture at the top i think it stands out and would grab the readers attention. the other picture i used though is slightly stretched. the content of the magazine isn't given away but this is good to draw the reader in by not telling them what is going on in the magazine

Final Front Cover

this is the final front page for my music magazine 'Just Dance'. i am pleased with how it turned out in the end but there are certain things i would change if i was to do it again such as the picutre doesn't look as clear as it could do and the title of it could be alot bolder than it already it. Other than that i think the colours all work well together whilst fitting in with the dance and girly theme. The fonts also work well together expecially the title as it looks very dance like with the discoball at the end. i also got rid of the black box across the middle that was seen in previous posts. the quote under the artists name is also effective as it grabs the readers attention at first glance.

Double page spread

this is my double page spread in process. I have changed the font of the title in this page but i think i will resort to the one on the past two pages to make it continuous. I have not completed this page yet as i need to upload pictures on this page. I also need to finish typing the interview up. But i like the pink and orange colour as i think they make it stand out more and seem more appealing to readers. Once this page is finished i think it will stand out alot and look good.

New Contents Page

This is my new contents page. I prefer this to my old one as it stands out more and there is no space to be filled. I made the main article stand out by using the picture large at the top and i also used another picture of an artist to divide it up more. I have kept with the same fonts through out the magazine and the same title which is dancey. I have changed the colour of pink though to make it stand out and catch the readers eye. This is the contents page i am going to use in my magazine.

Contents Page 1

This is my first attempt at a contents page. It has alot of blank space that i would need to fill if i was to use this one. The idea of using pink through out is to demonstate it is a girls magazine rather than a boys one. The different colours for the titles make it stand out more. I like the font i have used for the title as it is quite dancey with the disco ball at the end. I decided against using this contents page as it is quite dull and boring so i have created a new one.

Front Cover

This is the front cover for my music magazine 'Just Dance'. It have developed a large black area across my picture which is something i will need to amend. The picture and black background work well together make the model stand out more. I think the title and name of the artist should be made brighter and bolder as they do not stand out as much as i like. Other than that the style and layout of my magazine looks good and i am happy with the way it has turned out.

Feedback 22/4/09

Good Vicky - now you need to upload and comment on your mood board, rough sketches and planning for your pages, props and costume lists and location lists and photographs . Also include a selction of the photographs you have taken and why you chose the ones you did for your pages. Remember to keep blogging on your progress!

This is a contents page I roughly sketched out to go with the front cover of my prelim task. It has contents written at the top but is not very bold or makes it stand out. For my real title it will be brighter and funky. The contents of the magazine are listed with the page numbers next to them. It looks quick scruffy the way it is laid out and for my proper contents page i will make it much more neater and laid out so it can be understood better than this one. it also would have some pictures of featured things in the magazine down the side. this is something i will take foward and use in my proper magazine.

A very good prelim task vicky - well done! Good research and analysis.

Preliminary Task - 16.03.09

I made the College magazine prelim. It included a title, date and price, picture of the main featured article and different articles within it.
I think the layout of the magazine was good with one main picture and article and other titles around it. I will use the idea of having a large picture centre of the magazine with smaller titles around it. Also the use of lots of pink and pastel colours is appropriate as my magazine is going to be designed for girls.

I think that there wasn't enough pictures or writing to it so it looked quite bland and when I make my proper magazine I think I need to make it look more interesting to make the reader want to buy my magazine.

I have learnt from this task how to use the different technology involved eg. Indesign and Photshop. This will now help me when I begin making my proper magazine.

Feedback 12/3/09

A very good start Vicky - your target audience is well outlined!
You now need ot analyse a front cover, contents page and double page feature in relation to whether or not they follow the conventions of magazines (these are outlined in the PDF under practical projects on the AS Media Moodle site.) Who is the target audience for the magazine and how has it been put together to appeal to this audience?

Project Phoenix

I think that the group of music interest would be casuals where music plays a role in their life, but other things are more important. This group applies to 32% of 2,200 16-45 year old male and females. It would be said that the people in this group are equally, or more interested in the fashion and lifestyle of the music world than the music itself. The subgroup within this I think that my magazine would be aimed at is 'Weekend Rowdies'. Male and females in their mid teens to early twenties who live for the weekend.

Reader Profile

Reader Profile
Age? 16 to late twenties
Sex? Female
Occupation? College and university students
Hobbies? Clubbing, socialising, listening to music
Fashion? Interested in fashion, like going out and spending money
Socio-economic scale? D/E

Existing Magazines

M8 Mag is quite appealing on the front. The front cover is quite simple with the featured artist on the front. All the font colours tie into each other. It includes quite alot of information on the front cover but isn't that overpowering but could include less.
It doesn't include a free gift like the other two but at £3.50 it is cheaper than the others. The pricing of these magazines is something I need to consider, as the market is so competetive I need to be able to give my readers value for money.

Existing Magazines

Dj Mag is a magazine dedicated to Electronic Dance Music and Dj's. The front cover to this magazine is quite bright and would be appealing to potential readers. It contains plenty of information but is not as overpowering as Mix Mag. It contains a free CD and this is something I may consider doing this as most of these magazines offer a free gift.
I like the way this magazine is set out as it is simple but attractive. The magazine costs £3.95 but for what the magazine includes this is quite reasonable.

Existing Magazines

Mixmag is a British dance and clubbing magazine. It covers dance events, and reviews music and club nights. Mixmag carries a cover mix CD each month by a different DJ or artist.
The front cover has quite alot going on. It includes the name of the magazine, plus a large picture of the main artist being featured. It also contains different details of what is going to be in the magazine.
I don't like the style of this magazine as I think there is too much information on the front page and this may put people off buying.
The magazine costs £3.95 monthly but contains over 150 pages so the value is quite good.

Blog Entry 1 - Planning and Research 02/03/09

I am going to create a music magazine for my media coursework. I have chosen this over the film sequence as I think this would be more interesting and I find it easier to work on my own than with other people who may have different ideas.
The genre I have decided for my music magazine is dance. The target audience for my magazine will be teenage girls aged between sixteen to twenties. The magazine will be designed to suit girls rather than boys so will include girly themes and appeal to girls. I may need to carry out some research in order to find out exactly what girls may expect to see from the magazine. The unique selling point of my magazine is that it is created specifically for girls rather than male and female like most magazines. It is gender specific.
I think my product would be successful because it is different to most music magazines in the sense that it is aimed at older girls which is different to what the majority of music magazines aim at.

I will carry out audience questionnaires to make sure I am giving the potential readers what they want to see. This way I can avoid putting in things that the readers don't want to see and aren't interested in. I will also analyse different magazines of various genres to find out expected conventions of successful music magazines. I will conduct some research on products similar to my magazine to make sure I am making the best magazine possible.
